A Day in the Life ...

The single engine sea rating takes two days. It involves about five hours of training. Within that time frame you will be given instruction in basic water handling, including idle, plow and step taxi procedures. Next you will be shown how to properly execute a normal takeoff and landing from the water. The student will then progress to the more advanced maneuvers including crosswind, rough water and glassy water techniques. Also covered will be maximum performance procedures and emergency operation. Next, we will demonstrate docking and sailing (you'll be surprised how well it sails).

Your training will begin with a detailed ground school and preflight. The first lesson will also include basic air work, including slow flight and stalls.

All training will be done as prescribed under the FAA practical test standards for seaplanes. An FAA flight test will be conducted at the completion of your training. When the standards have been met, then an FAA certificate with the seaplane rating will be issued. We have two designated examiners on staff.

Most current land plane pilots have no difficulty with the transition to floats. If it appears additional flight instruction is needed, you will be told ahead of time.
